Registration for 2020 ABGSL Spring Season is now open. Be sure to register as early as possible to secure your family's spot in Albany Berkeley Girls Softball League's 38th Spring recreational season.

Enter the player information as requested on the website. If you use auto fill, please make sure that your name doesn't replace your child's name. Players will be assigned to the appropriate division based upon school grade.

ABGSL's registration fees are discounted for our Early-Bird period. Regular fees apply for all registrations after January 1, 2020, and registration closes on February 1 (or earlier if all spaces are filled).
Micro (Kindergarten and 1st Grade) $99 (Because Micro fees are lower there is no Early-Bird discount)
Younger (2nd and 3rd Grade) $195 until January 1st/ $215 on or after January 2nd
Middle (4th and 5th Grade) $210 until January 1st / $230 on or after January 2nd
Older (6th thru 9th Grade) $230 until January 1st / $250 on or after January 2nd

PRACTICE DAYS/ SCHEDULING CONFLICTS
Kindergarten and 1st grade girls (Micro Division) meet only once per week (every Saturday from 9-11:00 AM at Jane Hammond Softball Field in Codornices Park).
2nd-9th grade girls (Younger, Middle and Older Divisions) meet three days per week: either Monday, Wednesday and Saturday OR Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. During the registration process you will be asked to indicate which days of the week each girl can play.
$20 Incentive for 'Any Day' Schedule
In order to better balance our teams and our schedule, we are continuing our incentive for 2nd-9th graders who can play on either of our two schedules - Mon-Wed-Sat or Tue-Thu-Sat. Families that register their daughter and choose to play any days of the week will receive a $20 discount. Just choose 'Can play ANY' during registration. PLEASE NOTE that if you choose “ANY DAY” and get the discount, but your reciprocal friend request (see below) is limited to particular days of the week, we might not be able to accommodate the friend request.
FRIEND REQUESTS (MAKE SURE THEY ARE RECIPROCAL)
You may specify friends you would like to have on your team. ABGSL will make every effort to accommodate at least one reciprocal request, but cannot guarantee that requests will be honored. Be certain to check that the friend requests the same practice days and that a reciprocal request has been made on the friend's registration. We recognize that part of the fun of ABGSL is that girls get to play with their friends and that families need to organize carpools. We also know that many new friendships develop when girls play with different team members over time. A fundamental component of ABGSL is the mixing of teams from year to year, which presents a great opportunity to meet families from other schools and greatly adds to the fabric of our League. If you have carpool needs, please note that in the notes section of the registration.
ABGSL IS AN ALL-PARENT VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION
ABGSL runs entirely on volunteer labor, which means that every family, except Coach or Team Manager, in the League must volunteer for both a team job and a league job. Team jobs include coaching, field lining and scorekeeping, among others, and they support the team throughout the season. League jobs require a minimum of 4 hours of volunteer time over the course of the season. The league will send email during the course of the season describing volunteer opportunities that will fulfill the league job requirement. Most families will fulfill their league job by helping at our annual Bat-A-Que or by attending one of our field maintenance work parties, but there are also other important volunteer opportunities. We try to have a lot of fun in everything that we do and look forward to having you pitch in with us.
Our coaches and managers are an essential component of our League. Without them we would not be able to field teams. Being a coach or team manager fulfills BOTH your team and league job requirements. If you sign up to be a coach or manager, the League will contact you before the season starts. There will be a required COACH/MANAGER pre-season meeting on Tuesday, February 25.
Other than the team coaches and manager, all team jobs will be described and assigned at the parent team meeting at the start of the season.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU REGISTER
Our Division Commissioners will form teams in February after registration closes. Coaches and Managers do not play a role in selecting their teams, although they will always be on the same team as their own daughter. Team assignments and practice schedules will be announced on Opening Day, Saturday March 7.
ABGSL has learned over the years that the best softball experience occurs when teams start the season generally balanced by skill level. Consequently, we hold pre-season assessments that allow us to determine each girl's relative skill and to make sure the teams are balanced. Players in Grades 2-9 must attend one of the assessments, schedule TBA, but likely the last weeks of January or the first week of February. These assessments are used to balance our teams and are NOT a tryout. Players must be registered in order to participate in the assessments, which are mandatory. Pre-season assessments are not held for Micro Division players (K and 1st grade). More specific information about assessments will be sent out in January and can be found on our website when finalized.
We also intend to host several pre-season skills clinics in February. Specific dates will be announced later.
Included in the Registration fee is an ABGSL visor or hat and a team T-shirt with the sponsor's name and individual player numbers. All girls must provide their own cleats and glove. Micros can wear tennis shoes, but cleats are strongly recommended. The league facilitates informal equipment swaps throughout the season, including assessment days and Opening Day. Please donate gloves, bats, helmets and cleats that your daughter may have outgrown and browse the large stock of donated equipment and take home anything that you can use. Please refer to the ABGSL website for more details on required equipment and recommendations.
We are very pleased to be accepting Kindergartners in our Micro Division again this year. We suggest that Kindergartners attend a pre-season clinic to make sure that they are ready to play safely.
