ABGSL STING 12U GAME NEWS

Sting goes 3-1-1 in South Lake Tahoe Season Opener.

Saturday 6/20

Game 1: Sting 5, San Mateo Stunners 2
Lena Meyers came on strong striking out 10 batters, as Sting won the first game of their season.

The game was scoreless until the 3rd inning when Imani Hiller-Bateau started a 4 run rally with a 2 out single, followed by a hit by Lena. With a 1 and 2 count Carlin Hudson smashed a triple to left field scoring 2 runs. Sydnie Hersh singled in Carlin and Faith Valdez singled in Sydnie for the 4th run. Cielo Franco also hit a single in the inning.

The Stunners only runs came in the 4th inning on a hit batter, a double and a single. Lena struck out 2 batters and Sydnie(1B) charged a grounder, threw to Carlin(Catcher), who threw out a base runner to Faith at third.

Sting scored an insurance run in the 5th when Lena hit a single, stole 2nd and was driven in by a smash double by Carlin. Faith also hit a single in the inning.

Other fielding highlights included a great catch by Sara Cerami to end the 1st inning, and Carlin(catcher) threw out a runner to Cielo Franco(Shortstop) trying to steal 2nd.

Game 2: Sting 3, Almaden Lightning 3
With Carlin Hudson pitching, and Julia Rosenberg catching, Sting came back from 2-0 to tie their 2nd game 3-3.

In the top of the 1st Carlin held the Lightning to 1 run with the help of some great catches by Faith Valdez(3B) , Cielo Franco(2B) and Sydnie Hersh(1B). Sting was held scoreless in the bottom half, despite a lead off walk by Lena Mayer, and singles by Sydnie Hersh and Faith Valdez.

In the top of the 2nd the Lightning scored a run on a lead off single and a sacrifice, but Cielo and Sydnie combined for 2 outs and Carlin struck out a batter to end the inning. Cielo scored Stings 1st run when she was hit by a pitch, stole 2 bases and scored on a single by Lena Mayer. Imani Hiller-Bateau also had a hit in the inning.

Carlin struck out the side in the top of the 3rd. In the bottom of the 3rd Carlin led off with a single. Sydnie hit a single and stole second. Faith walked to load the bases, and Cielo walked on a full count to drive in Carlin.

In the 4th the Lightning struck for 1 more run on 3 hits. Lena(Shortstop) and Faith(3b) made great catches to end the inning.

Lena Meyer came in as relief in the top of the 5th struck out the side to leave the bases loaded. With 1 out Sydnie hit a single and move to 2nd with a walk by Faith. With 2 outs Cielo lined a 2-2 pitch for a double, scoring Sydnie and tying the game.

Game 3: Sting 10, SRV Stompers 3
Lena Mayer led off the game with a single and Carlin Hudson blasted a homerun to center. Sydnie Hersh hit a single and with 2 outs Cielo drove her in with single, Julia Rosenberg walked and Imani Hiller-Bateau drove in Cielo with a single. Sydnie, pitching, kept the Stompers hitless in the bottom half with solid fielding by Carlin(C), Lena(SS) and Faith Valdez(1B).

In the top of the 2nd, Lena smashed a double, and Carlin drove her in with a single. Carlin stole 2 bases and scored on a double by Sydnie. Faith hit a single scoring Sydnie. Sara Cerami banged a single scoring Faith, and Imani batted in Sara for the 9th run of the game. After a lead off hit, Sydnie got the next 3 batters to fly out to Sydnie, Mariel(3b) and Cielo(2b) to end the inning.

Sting scored 1 more run in the 3rd on a single and 2 stolen bases by Lena and a sacrifice by Sydnie. Faith also hit a double in the inning. The Stompers scored 2 runs on 4 hits in their half. But with 2 on and 2 out, Lena(SS) made an amazing running catch to end the inning.

The Stompers scored 1 more run in the 4th, but were put away by great defense from Carlin, Faith, Lena and Cielo.

Sunday June 21st

Game 1: Sting 11, Auburn Storm 4
The Storm struck early for 1 run on 2 hits in the 1st. But Carlin Hudson(P) put them away with a putout at home to Sydnie Hersh(C) a fly out to Cielo(2B) and a strikeout. Sting came back with singles by Lena Mayer and Carlin, and a double by Sydnie to score 2 runs. Sara Cerami also had a single and walk in the inning.

In the 2nd the Storm scored 3 to take back the lead, but Lena Mayer came in as relief to shut them down.

Sting came alive in the bottom of the 3rd scoring 5 runs to take the lead for good. Lena led off with a single. Sydnie walked. Faith hit a single scoring Lena and Sydnie. Sara hit a single scoring Faith. Imani Hiller-Bateau drove in Sara with a double and scored on a blast double by Julia Rosenberg.

In the top of the 4th after the lead off batter walked and stole 2nd Sara(CF) fielded an overthrow and threw out the runner to Faith at 3rd. Lena struck out the next batter and got a batter to ground out to third. Julia Sparer led off Stings half with a double to left and a stolen base. Lena Mayer followed her by rocketing a 2 run homer to centerfield. Carlin and Sydnie hit back to back singles, faith hit a single scoring Carlin and Sara scored Sydnie with a single for the eleventh run of the game.

Game 2: Livermore Smoke 13, Sting 4
Lena started Sting off with a 1-2-3 inning. Cielo Franco(SS) threw out a runner to Sydnie Hersh(1B), Sara Cerami(CF) caught a fly ball and Lena struck out the final batter. In the bottom half Sting took the lead with a double by Lena followed by a double by Sydnie that knocked in Lena. Faith Valdez hit in Sydnie with a single.

The Smoke remained scoreless until the 3rd inning when they scored 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk. They scored 6 more runs in the 5th, and 4 more against Sydnie pitching in relief in the 6th. Sting scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th when Carlin Hudson hit a single, Faith hit a single, Cielo Franco hit a single scoring Carlin. And Imani Hiller-Bateau hit a single scoring Faith. Julia Rosenberg also had a hit in the game.
