It was an early, but much anticipated first game for the Sting team. The girls started practice at 7am and get ready for the game at 8am! The early morning hours did not matter because the girls were excited and ready to start the first game of the 2-day tournament!
The 1st inning started out tough for the Sting team. The Livermore Smoke quickly loaded the bases and started a rally. Despite the Smoke's aggressive offense, the Sting defense was on point, making routine plays look easy! Sting catcher, Skye Salas, was very alert on that early morning and threw out 2 hitters at first base following strikeouts.
On offense, Skye Salas walked, stole second base and third base, but was left stranded after the next 3 batters struck out.
The 2nd inning defense for Sting was solid! The Livermore Smoke started were they left off in the 1st inning. The Smoke started another rally, but not before the Sting's defense made some awesome plays. Catcher Skye Salas threw out a runner at home base to pitcher Miya Keilin for an exciting 2nd out. Skye Salas was very aggressive and raises the bar at the catching position. Derby Gill caught a nice high pop fly to end the inning for the hot Smoke offense.

Despite the great effort to rally, the Sting team failed to score any runs.
Robyn Wampler pitched the 3rd inning and recorded 3 strikeouts, but not before the Livermore Smoke got a few more runs and ultimately put the first game of the tournament away for the Sting team.
Game 2: Sting vs. Almaden Lightning (2-8 loss)

The Sting offense had a tough time scoring in the 2nd inning. However, injured player Sierra Jimenez became active as a substitute runner for Robyn Wampler. Sierra had injured her throwing hand in the first game of the tournament, but that did not stop her from playing 2nd base defense in this game!
Miya Keilin caught a very fast shot fly ball at 1st base for the first out. Sierra Jimenez also had an amazing catch at 2nd base for the second out! Almost looked like she broke her back catching that ball. Finally, catcher Skye Salas threw out a runner at home to pitcher Robyn Wampler for the third and final out of the inning.

The Sting team was up first against the Alameda Blaze. Unfortunately, it was a 1-2-3 inning for the offense. The defense also had a tough time in the 1st inning.
