ABGSL STING 10U GAME NEWS

Rohnert Park Tournamment July 16-19

Game 1: Sting vs. Novato Heat (2-6 loss)

Sting was up first in this new tournament. Sierra Jimenez walked to try to get things started for Sting, but she got caught stealing 2B to end any 1st inning threat to score. The Novato Heat scored 3 runs to take the lead early in the 1st inning.

Sting decided to score in the 2nd inning to get back in the game. Tatiana Jellinek was hit by a pitch and took 1st base; followed by a single from Raleigh Williams. Skye Salas blasted a nice single to right field and collected two RBIs. Sting had come within 1 run of tying the game. Sting could only score two runs in the inning. On defense, Miya Keilin was on point with her pitching. Miya only allowed only1 run in the 2nd inning and kept the game close. At the end of the 2nd inning the score was 2-4 Heat.

Sting was unable to produce any runs on offense in the 3rd inning. Novato Heat scored two more runs to increase the lead 2-6 after 3 innings, and that would ultimately become the final score.

Despite the loss, Sting displayed very good defense and very good pitching control from Miya Keilin.

Game 2: Sting vs. Santa Rosa Victory (0-13 loss)

Sting was up first and quickly got out with a 1-2-3 inning. Victory did not wait to score runs; by the end of the 1st inning the score was 0-4 Victory.

Sting had it tough again on offense in the 2nd inning with another 1-2-3 inning. Victory scored 5 more runs, including a homerun, to increase the lead to 0-9. Shortstop Derby Gill threw out a runner at home to catcher Skye Salas for a great defensive play at home plate.

The 3rd inning was pretty much the same as the 2nd inning. On offense Sting had another 1-2-3 inning. Victory scored 4 more runs witch ended the game for Sting. The final score was 0-13 Victory. :-(

Game 3: Sting vs. San Bruno Storm (1-7 loss)

Sting was up first against the Storm. Miya Keilin quickly got on with a walk and stole 2B and 3B to get in scoring position. Bonnie Coulman brought home Miya with an RBI single to take the early lead 1-0.

On defense, it was a very exciting day for Sierra Jimenez, who got her first start as a pitcher. All season she has been practicing to pitch in a game, she finally got her chance. Sierra started off with two strikeouts! She gave up a double and the defense helped her with a routine play at first base to end the inning. The score was still 1-0 Sting.

The Sting offense in the 2nd had a 1-2-3 inning. On defense Sting allowed the Storm to score 3 runs, but not before Sierra Jimenez threw out a runner stealing 2B for the final out of the inning. The score was 1-3 Strom after 2 innings of play.

The Sting offense had it tough again to start the 3rd inning; it was another 1-2-3 in and out. On defense, pitcher Sierra Jimenez looked pretty good for her fist time pitching, only allowing 1 run in the 3rd inning. After 3 innings the score was 1-4 San Bruno Strom.

Sting's offense just didn't have it on this day. In the 4th inning it was yet another 1-2-3 3 in and out :-( . San Bruno scored 4 runs in the 4th inning and leaving Sting behind for a 1-7 victory.

Sierra Jimenez was very impressive for her first start as a pitcher; she showed a lot of potential

Game 4: Sting vs. San Anselmo Storm (11-1 win)

Derby Gill was the starting pitcher for this early Sunday morning game. She allowed no runs in the 1st inning, and a great defensive play was made by Catcher Skye Salas and 3rd basemen Lila Simpson, catching a runner trying to steal 3rd base.

The 1st inning offense came alive against the Storm. Miya Keilin and Adi Saaf started it off with back-to-back a singles. Miya eventually scored on a wild pitch. Lila Simpson also hit a single and collected an RBI scoring Adi. Lila also stole 2B, 3B, and Home on a wild pitch. At the end of the 1st inning the score was 3-0 Sting.

The 2nd inning defense was awesome! Catcher for first time this season was Grace Rusin. She has been practicing the catching position all season, and she finally got her chance on defense. Pitcher Derby Gill threw out a runner, to Catcher Grace Rusin, trying to steal home on a wild pitch. First basemen Isabel Lavrov also assisted Grace getting a runner out trying to steal home to end the inning.

On offense, Skye Salas walked and was followed by a single from Miya Keilin. Adi Saaf had a sacrifice out scoring Skye for and RBI. Bonnie Coulman hit a RBI single scoring Miya. Bonnie also stole 2B, 3B, and scored on a stolen base attempted by Sierra Jimenez. Sting had increased the lead 6-0!

3rd inning defense was solid. Pitcher Derby Gill kept the game scoreless for the Storm team, and Catcher Grace Rusin was very aggressive against base runners.

The Sting offense exploded in the 3rd inning! Grace Rusin started with a single and eventually stole home on a wild pitch. Derby Gill was hit by a pitch and also stole home on a wild pitch. Adi Saaf walked and stole 2B, 3B, and home on another wild pitch. Lila Simpson walked and stole 2B and 3B, followed by a homerun from Bonnie Coulman! Sting had increased the lead 11-0.

Derby Gill completed her game with 6 strikeouts and allowing only 1 run. Sting would win the game 11-1!

Game 5: Sting vs. Los Gatos Magic (0-13 loss)

It was a very hot afternoon in Rohnert Park, and a very tough game for the Sting team. The Magic quickly scored and did not stop. Sting only got on base twice with a single from Bonnie Coulman and a powerful double from Tatiana Jellinek. Sting did not score any runs and lost the game 0-13 :-(
