Benicia Tournamment July 11-12

Friday July 10th

Sting vs. Concord Glory

Sting was up to hit first against the Glory in game 1 of the Benicia tournament. Sting quickly loaded the bases with two walks by Robyn Wampler and Tatiana Jellinek, and a single by Lila Simpson. Sierra Jimenez got an RBI walk and scored Robyn to take the lead 1-0.

Concord Glory responded by scoring five runs to take the lead 1-5.

Sting came back to reclaim the lead in the 2nd inning. Skye Salas started the rally with a walk and a stolen base. Derby Gill walked as well, followed by a single from Miya Keilin to load the bases. Robyn Wampler and Tatiana Jellinek both got RBI walks. Lila Simpson hit a single scoring Miya for a RBI. Bonnie Coulman tied the game with a RBI walk keeping the bases loaded for Isabel Lavrov, who also got a RBI walk to take the lead 6-5.

Glory would not stay down in the bottom of the 2nd inning. They reclaimed the lead scoring four runs and ultimately wining the game 6-9.

Game 1: Sting vs. Petaluma Steele Breeze

It was another early game for the Sting team. Our girls were up to bat first, and got aggressive early. Robyn Wampler started things off with a single and quickly stole 2B. Tatiana Jellinek reached 1B on a dropped ball by the catcher. So with runners on first and second, Lila Simpson came to bat and crushed the ball to center field for a double, scoring Robyn and Tatiana for two RBI's!

The 1st inning defense was on point as well. Miya Keilin showed great control only allowing one run and then getting the next three batters out. By the end of the 1st inning Sting had the lead 2-1.

The Sting offense stayed alive starting the 2nd inning. Derby Gill started the inning with a single and quickly stole 2B, followed by a walk from Bonnie Coulman. Miya Keilin hit a single scoring Derby Gill for the first run of the inning. So with runners on 1st and 2nd, Robyn Wampler came up to bat and hit a single scoring Bonnie and Miya for the second and third run of the inning. Tatiana Jellinak layed out a perfect bunt getting to 1B safely, followed by a single by Lila Simpson to load the bases. Raleigh Williams was hit by a pitch, which forced Robyn to score. So with bases still loaded, Isabel Lavrov came to bat and completely crushed the ball into center field scoring Lila Simpson for the final run of the inning. Sting now had a 8-1 lead going into the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Miya Keilin once again showed great control pitching in the 2nd inning. It was a 1-2-3 inning for the Sting defense, keeping the score 8-1 going into the 3rd.

The Sting team just could not be stopped going into the 3rd inning. Derby Gill quickly got on base with a single and eventually scored on a double by Skye Salas. Bonnie Coulman walked and stole 3B followed by a single from Miya Keilin. Robyn Wampler grounded out at 1B for a sacrifice RBI scoring Bonnie Coulman. Tatiana Jellinek walked followed by a RBI single from Lila Simpson scoring Miya Keilin for the 3rd run of the inning. Raleigh Williams came to bat and was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Isabel Lavrov walked for a RBI scoring Tatiana. Adi Saaf was also hit by a pitch and got a RBI scoring Lila. Derby Gill hit a RBI single scoring Raleigh followed by another RBI single from Skye Salas scoring Isabel for the last run of the inning. Sting had taken the lead 15-1.

After a 3 run rally from the Steele Breeze, Sting started the 4th inning were they left off in the 3rd. Sierra Jimenez came into the game and crushed a deep ball into right field for a well deserved single. Miya Keilin followed with a single of here own. Sierra stole 3B and set up a sacrifice RBI for Robyn Wampler. Tatiana Jellinek reached 1B for a RBI scoring Miya. Lila Simpson followed with a single but no more runs were scored for the 4th inning. Sting had increased their lead 17-4.

The Steele Breeze kept the game interesting in the bottom of the 4th, scoring seven runs before the game was called. The Sting girls had won the game 17-11.

Game 2: Sting vs. Campbell Crush

Sting earned their way to the 2nd round of the tournament to take on the number 1 scoring team, Campbell Crush. The 1st inning didn't look too good for Sting; they quickly got out with a 1-2-3 inning. The Crush also scored seven runs, including a Grand Slam, to take the lead after 1 inning 7-0.

Sting came alive in the 2nd inning. Adi Saaf walked, stole 2b and 3b. Bonnie Coulman walked and stole 2b, which allowed Adi to steal home and score. Bonnie stole 3b and eventually scored on a Skye Salas bunt single. The score was 8-2 by the end of the 2nd inning.

Sting kept the Crush on their toes in the 3rd inning. Sting quickly loaded the bases and was threatening to score. However, Sting failed to get anybody home.

Crush had increased their lead by the end of the 3rd inning adding 5 runs including two Home Runs.

Sting eventually lost the game to Crush 13-2
