MICRO DIVISION Moneyballers Red Rubies (split squad) vs. Andronico's Flying Racoons In a sizzling 85 degree slugfest, the Red Rubies' home team took on the Flying Raccoons. Rubies' Dixie Lewis led off with a soaring double, followed by a line drive off Zo Pancoast's hot bat. Rachel Alper laid down a burner to shortstop to drive in Alison Rose Marten, whose base-running skills scored the Rubies' first run. But the real story of the day was the Rubies' defensive play, with two outs in two innings and a big catch by pitcher Quinn Edlin. The Raccoons fought back with a double by Gorgia Tomasik in the second inning, and well-hit singles by Grace Noonan and Blaze Goldstein in the third. Both teams showed excellent ABGSL team spirit by sharing the only shaded dug-out, despite the hard-fought and competitive pace of the game . Moneyballers Red Rubies (split squad) vs.Jane Hammond Events Spotted Snakes Kira Holmberg of the Spotted Snakes smashed a single that knocked in one run. Megan Molkenbuhr hit a strong line drive up third for another two Spotted Snakes RBI's. The Moneyballers showed their strength with lefty Solia Valentine hitting a solid base hit that knocked in a run. YOUNGER DIVISION Autumn Press Whippersnappers 17, Berkeley Orthodontics Mighty Molars 12 This rematch between the two teams was a hard fought game. In the top of the first inning, Gretta Kirkby, playing at first base, got three outs on the first three hitters - first on a throw from Silvana Montagu at second, then twice on throws from pitcher Serafina Ketlner-McNeil. The bottom of that inning saw solid hits from many of the Whippersnappers, including Cammie Grant, Georgia Thomsen, Abigail Cain, and Anna Reed. The Mighty Molars battled back inthe top of the second inning, with Carly Wright ripping the ball through the left side and Mia Loretto's solid hit. Strong defensive plays in that inning included two outs by Whippersnapper Georgia at second. Other highlights of the game came in the third inning, when Mighty Molars catcher Amari Coffey caught a pop-up at home plate for an out and pitcher Carly charged off the mound to cover home plate for another out. The bottom of the third included a hard hit single by Whippersnapper Tara Steckler over the first base bag and an RBI single by Uma Navarro. Alliance Graphics Cardinals 14, Dr. Kenneth Brehnan's Blue Jays 15 Elka Saaf started the Blue Jay victory with a leadoff double to left field. Elka followed up with two additional doubles. Blue Jay bats were strong with 3 singles from Esther Karpilow, and two singles each from Hannah Valdez, Jane Yarnell and Lucy Mowry. Hannah and Lucy shined for the Blue Jay defense, teaming up twice at pitcher and catcher for outs. The Cardinal defense was highlighted in the first inning by a stop made by Aimee Chi Soe at shortstop, making the throw to secondbasewoman Erin Shurtz for an out. Erin followed up with a stop thrown to Parisa Imani at first for another out. Erin led the Cardinals bats with a triple and two singles. Aimee,Madeline Kaneko, and Lindsay Long had three singles each to round out the Cardinals' offense. Title IX Butterflies vs. The Five Little Monkeys Hot batters for the Butterflies included Layla Sousa, Glenna Harris, Grace Schafer and Ja'Seena Duckworth. The game heated up as the temperature soared on the field, when The Five Little Monkeys responded with some of their own firepower. Sadie Cooper hit a line drive double, and Anisa Armstead-Brown, as always, hit the ball hard. Five Little Monkey Nory Klop-Packel continued to shine as a pitcher and fielder, with other fine defensive plays from Mina Reoutt-Swabeck, Millicent Samson-Eves and Mallory McCrane. Butterflies Rachel Kaufman and Delaney Whitaker likewise provided solid performances on defense, while Anne Mugler hit a sparkling line drive up the middle. MIDDLE DIVISION Berkeley Children's Dentistry Purple Polka Dotted Piranhas 5, Albany Physical Therapy Jackrabbits 1 Hana Minsky opened the scoring floodgate for the Piranhas in the third inning by knocking in a run with a smash single, then later stealing third base and scoring. Hana added a team-inspiring booming outfield single in the fourth inning, as well as providing solid catching to help shut down the Jackrabbits. Katherine O'Brien contributed two hard-hit singles, stole two bases, and knocked in an insurance run in the Piranhas' last at bat. Alexis Ballman shined on offense and defense, including her striking out of five Jackrabbits over the last 2 innings to effectively squelch any budding rally attempts. Lila Simpson had a hard hit single to knock in the Piranhas' third run, followed by an RBI single from Melia Palioca's. Both Lila and Melia also were solid in the field, including Lila's scoop of a hard grounder at shortstop and dashing over to second to end the game on an unassisted putout. Impact Fund Atomic Sweeties 6, North Berkeley Investment Partners Grass Stains 4 Claire Kaneko of the Sweeties got the scoring started by singling, then beating an attempted force play at second, stealing third and scoring on Ella Hass's single. Sofi Campos-Seligman, playing first base for the Grass Stains, single-handedly fielded all three outs in the inning. The Stains were unstoppable in the top of the second, with their four runs batted in by Griffin Campbell, Grace Rusin, Yasmine Alston and Kaili Meier. Rusin later had a nifty put-out at first; Alston made a great stop of a hard grounder to right field and Raquel Vergara-Garrison made two great stops in the infield. Atomic Sweetie Maria Barkhurst, who scored two runs, sparkled on the pitcher's rubber in the third, facing just four batters and finishing with a hand-thrown strikeout. In the bottom of the inning all ten Sweeties went to the plate. Grass Stain pitcher Amanda Klopp dazzled one with a called strike three, but seven hitters reached base safely, Hass scoring the go-ahead run on a come-backer by Julia Glasser. The game ended on an exciting play at the plate, with Meier rifling a throw to catcher Campbell for a close force out against hard-charging Taegan Ballantine. OLDER DIVISION Zonta Ghostbusters 8, San Marco Bruisers 8 Setting the tone for an exciting game, Anna Cheyette struck out the first Bruiser batter, but good base running and a Julia Sparer's nice fly to center field yielded 2 runs, followed by a good hit by Maggie Gallagher for 4 in the first inning. Sydnie Hersh powered back with an in the park home run, followed by a double by Hannah Herman. Second inning highlight was Natalie Burn's big hit to left field, fly outs by Julia Shebek and nice plays by Anna and Kennedy Grant brought it to 8-3. Zonta added another run with Sierra Lee scoring , bringing it to 8-4. Sydnie's pitching brought the ball into play on the first 3 batters- with 2baseman Julia Shebek fielding grounders and tossing them to 1baseman Sierra for 2 of the 3 outs. Sydnie stopped Imani Hiller-Bateau's strong hit and tossed it to Sierra. On offense, Claire Simpson's nice hit advanced runner Coco Martinelli, Julia Shebek hit a grounder for an RBI, and Zonta was down 8-7. Zonta defense stayed on fire, with Sydnie Hersh striking out the first two batters, and a pop fly out to end the inning. Faith Valdez took over pitching for the Bruisers and nice stretches at first base by Imani held Zonta scoreless for the inning. Three more quick outs by Zonta, and they got to their final at bats, with Sierra hitting a grounder to third, followed by a nice hit by Sydnie to bring in the tying run. . INTERLEAGUE
San Lorenzo Lady Hulks 6, Friedman-Brueggemeyer Aftershock 3
Aftershock Colleen Hamilton-Lecky got this inter-league game off to an electrifying start with a vigorous double in her first at-bat. Christeen Lewis proved her value to the team on both offense and defense, making an impressive pop-fly catch in the first inning, assisting with several outs at first base, and slamming a powerful single in the second inning and a vigorous double in the third. Dramatic defense highlighted the second inning when Emma Kneafsey tagged a runner out at third base who had attempted to steal home but was chased back by catcher Lena Mayer. Kneafesy then handily caught a fly ball to end the inning. Aftershock Mayer's dynamic single in the second inning sparked an Aftershock rally which saw three runs scored, including Megan Foley's thrilling hit to left field, Kelia Human's slam down the third baseline, and Hamilton-Lecky's sound line drive down center field with the bases loaded. As pitcher, Mayer struck out several Lady Hulks, holding them scoreless in the final two innings, withHamilton-Lecky cleanly seizing a fly ball for the third out in the Lady Hulk's last at-bat. |
