Also in the first inning, Abigail Cain had a powerful hit up the middle, followed by Georgia Thomsen, who lined one into center field. In the second inning, the Golden Eagles' Melina Fike, playing second, snapped up a grounder and tagged up for an out. For the Cardinals, Avery Rasband threw a solid strike to get a runner out at home. In the second inning, Gillian Monahan-Miller slammed a line drive past the shortstop into the outfield, and Zadie Jivan had a great pick-up in the infield.

Middle Division
Berkeley Orthodontics Pumas 7, Red Oak Realty Chili Peppers 0.

Chili Peppers pitcher Erin Cain held the Pumas scoreless in the top of the first, though the Pumas came roaring out in the second, scoring three runs, highlighted by the first of Sarah Cerami's three hits. The Pumas, after scoring four more in the third, held the Pumas scoreless in that inning, with fine defense, especially Julia Rosenberg's strong throw from shortstop, and a nice tag after a relay from center field. With bases loaded in the top of the fourth, Chili Pepper's Erin Hoynes fielded a grounder at the mound and tossed to Kate Thomsen at home plate for a force play to shut out the Pumas again in the fourth. Then it was the Pumas turn to hold tough in the field, as Julia Sparer threw out a runner at first from right field, and Emily Wert ended the Chili Pepper's chances with a solid throw to first after fielding a grounder hit back to her at the mound.

San Marco Associates Killer Bunnies 5, Friedman Brueggemeyer Tree Frogs 1

The first inning was dominated by pitching and defense, with several strikeouts and a fine catch of an arcing line drive by Tree Frogs pitcher, Imani Hiller-Bateau. The Tree Frogs scored a run in the top of the second inning when Rachel Ng hit a double and stole 3rd. Maite Ibanez de Garayo knocked Rachel home with a solid hit into the gap in centerfield. The Killer Bunnies came back in the bottom of the inning when Sydnie Hersh and Sarah Tiffin drove singles into the outfield. After two HBPs, there were three consecutive RBI singles by Katherine O'Brien, Cecilia Rubens, and Shira Baskind. The Tree Frogs' Julia "Tiger" Shebek had a solid base hit late in the game, but it was not enough to make dent in the Killer Bunnies' lead.

IWW Devil Duckies 3, Adobe Systems Screamers 2

In this taut well played game, the Duckies built a two to nothing lead after two innings. Their strong defense and hustling style was demonstrated early on when first baseman HANA MINSKY stretched from the bag to snatch a hard throw from slick fielding pitcher LILA JANSEN. Behind the plate, solid BAILEY KOBELIN let no pitch get by her. Then in the top of the second, Duckies' pitcher SOPHIA SCHNEIDER put on a clinic as she struck out the side, aided by the staunch catching of LAUREN MESSINA-DOUVOS. Offensively, the Duckies scored first when leadoff hitter MATILDA STODDART-CONE beat out an infield hit, stole third base, and scored on a too-hot-to handle grounder to the mound by EMMA GADBERRY. Their second run came later in the second inning when JULIA COOKE smashed a double, and eventually scored with a perfect slide at home-plate. The Screamers then dug in their heels and tied the game while shutting down the Duckies, despite such efforts as the base-path hustle of speedy ALEX ARRIOLA. In the last half-inning, the determined Duckies pulled out the victory by scoring on a series of hard hits including singles by MADELINE LAWRENCE and GEMMA HUNT.

The Bark Beagles 2, Vivian Lopez Orthodontics Chocolatiers 0

Beagle Anna Cheyette hit a solid single in the second inning, while Chocolatier pitcher Anna Barcellos strongly threw out a runner at first. In the top of the third, Beagle Isabel Daniels shined on defense, while Chocolatier Parker had a fine base hit, and Amhara Summerford-Arjail also made good contact with the ball. In the Beagles' third, Jasmine Masten produced a solid hit along the third baseline for a single, and Chocolatier pitcher Coco Martinelli made an impressive catch on a pop-up. In the final inning, the Beagles scored their second run, on a solid hit by Amanda Klopp, and a single by Daniels to center field that advanced Cheyette to second, who later stole third base, and scored on Rossi-Goldthorpe strong single.

Strategic Economics Oxykleen 10, Arkin Tilt Goonies 8

This was a close, exciting and well-matched season opener. The Goonies dominated in the field early in the game. A strong hit to center was snatched by Julia Foster who threw to pitcher Emily Cain, who in turn tossed to second base where shortstop Lena Mayer made the tag. Goonies third base woman Natalie Burns speared a searing line drive in her backhand. Oxykleen ran aggressively on the basepaths, with Jennie Olson, Boothe Carlson and Jane Huff all stealing home for runs. Oxykleen's Cassidy Villeneuve and Niki Sinclaire each posted solid base hits for RBIs. A crowd-pleasing out occurred as Oxykleen's Sami Chang hit a high hopper that pitcher Lena Mayer jumped and snatched backhanded, pivoted and threw ball to first on time . Goonies Rachel Burns had two soaring hits to the outfield, one for an RBI triple. Oxykleen's Olson laid a beautiful bunt down the third base line to get on first and put a runner across in the fifth. Oxykleen pitcher Faith Valdez had struck out three to end the first inning, and Boothe followed her example to close out the fifth and the game, preserving the two run lead.
