Robinson McNally The Chill 9, Marvin Gardens Crush 8
April 14. With both teams down by two players, the Chill battled the Crush to a hard-fought victory. The Chill started strong with four runs in the first inning, two brought in by a solid hit from Jenna Guffy. Strong pitching in the second inning by Crush pitcher Lindsey Baker, including catching a pop fly with a quick play to first for two outs, kept the Chill at bay. The Chill fought back--Lila Rosenfeld’s fast pitching in the third inning brought three quick outs. The Crush made its comeback in the fourth inning, with solid hits by five Crush players, including Eden Gorman’s double hopper over the pitcher’s head for two RBIs, Daria Taplin-Tugwell’s base hit for 1 RBI, and Zoe Fiddler’s base hit for another RBI. But The Chill’s third baseman, Stephanie Thorne, nabbed anything that came her way and made all three outs for that inning. Crush pitcher Jordan Baker continued to strike out the Chill’s hitters, but when Crush tried to do their own hitting, The Chill’s leftfielder Jennie Olson sealed the deal with her fly ball catch.
