Interleague Division
San Lorenzo Ice Breakers 4, Sweet Potatoes Peelers 3
In a hard fought, well-played game, the Sweet Potatoes Peelers fell just short to the San Lorenzo Ice Breakers, 4-3. The Ice Breakers were led by the speedy and accurate pitching of Ashley Coleman and Sarah Ward-Haddan. In the first inning Ice Breakers’ Angie Santos started the offense with a double to center field and scored after a bad throw by the Peelers. Ashley Schmutzler added a solid single in the 3rd and was driven in by Kirsten Moran. Erin Dickerhoff led the Peelers offense, getting 2 hits, including a triple, and an RBI. Meagan Tokunaga and Maddie Cousens provided the Peelers with sparkling defense. Tokunaga played a flawless infield, recording 4 put outs, and Cousens threw out 2 runners trying to steal. Cousens also had an RBI. Peelers Fiona Riley and Kelsey Murakami pitched courageously, keeping the potent Ice Breakers’ bats under control. Murakami singled in the last Peelers run in the 7th inning, but was left stranded at third to end the game.
Older Division
Adobe Black Magic 10+, Tulip Hardwood Belt Sanders 0
Belt Sander Sonya Schoenberger caught a sky-high pop fly for the first out of the game. Belt Sanders Emma Rotem and Katie Tick followed with great pick-ups on hard-hit grounders. Belt Sanders Angelina Herrera and Sita Wong turned in stellar performances at first base. Beltsander newcomer Emily Fong shot a single to left field early in the game and dazzled the crowd in the 4th inning with daring base-running and slides. Belt Sander catcher Kate Carter repeatedly dared the Bears' base runners with her aggressive posture and menacing looks. Even the fabulous pitching of Lilah Hubbard and Elana Jacobs-Pontecorvo couldn't resuscitate the Belt Sanders against the Black Magic spell. Black Magic was hot all around. Magician Jenna Brotsky was a hitting machine, with two singles and runs scored. Black Magic pitcher Lisie Dohrer drove in two runs and scored twice off drives smacked by teammate Lily Meryash. Black Magician and Special Olympics Gold Medalist Elisa Jones inspired everyone with her base running, taking second on an infield single and scoring on Hanna Morris' fielder's choice.
San Marco Associates Slammmers 8, Counterforce Lightning 2
In a heartbreaking loss to the Slammmers, the Lightning came up with some spectacular play. Lightning bolt Adriana Stevens pitched 5 strong innings, recording 5 strike outs, and stole 3 bases including home. In a defensive gem, Lightning left fielder Giselle Moreno threw a strike to catcher Amanda Stevens, who tagged out a stealing Slammmer. At second base Lightning Carol "scoop" Sturgeon snagged a blazing grounder and tossed it to first for the out. Lightning Johanna Heyer plays superb defense at first base and smashed a triple to keep the Lightning in the game.
Middle Division
Red Oak Realty Rascals 4, Alliance Graphics Platypi 11
The Rascals and Platypi came to Fielding ready to play last Saturday. Rascal defense was strong, with Vita Romano making a terrific catch at 2nd base. Romano then made a fine throw to Meg McCabe at 1st base to end the inning. Bats were busy on both teams, with Jordan Baker scoring in the 1st thanks to Romano’s RBI single. The 2nd was particularly strong for the Platypi: Rascal Veronica Timpane was noteworthy by snagging an infield hit and tagging 1st base for the out. Rascal bats went quiet in the 2nd but came alive in the 3rd, when Baker led off with a triple. Brooke Tannahill and Camille Obata recorded RBI singles, while Gillian Sweeney drilled one into center field for a RBI double. Defensive highlights in the 3rd inning included two impressive outs made by Obata while playing 1st base. Katy Robinson displayed true courage by continuing to pitch even after taking a hard-hit line drive to her shin.
Prins Chiropractic Bulldogs 8, Arkin Tilt Terminators 1
Highlights from this match include Bulldog singles by Lindsey Baker, Tamar Degen-Nosek, Anna Moore and Katie Lyons. Bulldog Kate Moore hit a hard double grounder and, when it was time, slid into home to score. Bulldog Julie Moorad hit a double and also pitched a great inning. Bulldog Mia Jauregui pitched her first inning of the season. Bulldog Cory Labov made an exciting out playing shortstop. The Terminators' defense included the following highlights: Strike-outs by pitchers Ashley LaRosa and McKenzie Giblin. Terminator first baseman Zoe Salnave-Crisostomo caught a bulls-eye throw from Nina Magnuson for an out. Terminator pitcher Kenia Cobb caught a fly ball for the out. On offense, Terminator Shira Rothman hit an RBI, letting Elise Hartinger score. Another outing of excellent play by both teams
Impact Fund Maximum Impact 3, Nolo Press Sharks 0
A hot day kept the score low between the Sharks and Maximum Impact, but both teams played a strong defensive game. Both Impact player Clara Obstfeld and Pickle Express’ Marielle Cohen started off their respective halves of the 1st inning with very aggressive base running. The Pickle Express’ Roisin Shannon was a strong presence at first base and helped hold Impact scoreless in the top of the 3rd inning. Pickle Express’ players Julia Martinelli and Samantha Abkin got good hits to put the pressure on in the bottom of the 3rd. However, in the top of the 4th inning, Maximum Impact players Natalia Aldaco and Gabriela Steiner started off the inning with solid base hits. Aldaco stole 3rd and then was batted in by Sasha Kramer. Jennie Olson advanced Steiner and Kramer, who were ultimately batted in for two more runs.
Younger Division
On the Beam Leopards 15, Five Little Monkeys Dementors 10
Dementors Kelly Barry and Jasmine Abuslin both had solid infield hits. Leopard Imani Hiller-Bateau handed off to Hannah Herman for two force-outs at the plate. In a great defensive play, Dementor shortstop Claire Simpson stopped the ball and threw to Serena Witherspoon at second for an out. Dementor Lena Mayer had a double play, catching a short hit for the first out, then a quick throw to Maggie Scarpa at first for the second out. Leopard Maggie Gallagher lined a single toward right field to drive in a run. Claire Ramer followed with a shot towards shortstop to drive in Aya Newman. Dementors Madeleine Barnum and Emily Cain both had several hard hit singles. For the Leopards, Josephine Hass scored from second on a single to right field by Rosa Rossi-Goldthorpe.
Friedman-Brueggemeyer Cougars 14, Zooming Zonta Zebras 7
Under blazing sunshine, the sweaty but determined Zebras put up a good fight against a stellar offensive by the Cougars at Berkeley’s Codornices Field on Saturday. Defensively, team plays by pitcher Margaret English and catcher Alejandra Zeiger earned the Zebras two outs at home base. Zebra Sarah Lake made three unassisted outs at third base in the second inning. In the fourth, Emma Hurlbert made a key unassisted out at third base. Offensively, strong singles were hit by Zebra batters Kyra Traynor, Claire Harper, Alondra Franco and Hurlbert. The Cougars displayed great offensive and defense. Catcher Anna Barcellos caught a popup at home for a key out. Reyna Fa-Kaji caught a fly ball and tagged third for a stunning double play. Gemma Hunt made three unassisted outs at first base. And Madeleine Pauker fielded a grounder and tagged a runner at first base to win the game.
Micro Division
Andronico's Blue Jays v. Autumn Press Stars
Lila Simpson was the defensive standout for the Blue Jays; she made several excellent stops and always knew which base to go to with the ball. Blue Jays Jordan Hanson, Jazmyn Nevarez and Hana Minsky each got solid hits. The Stars had a big day offensively, with all of their players hitting the ball well. Star Bonnie Coulman bashed one into the outfield. Alana Dancel-Larripa and Molly Scheinman also had good hits for the Stars.
Jane Hammond Green Gators vs. Autumn Press Stars
Gator Talia Rogers fielded a first base throw from Mia Rabin. Mia Rabin made several good throws as shortstop. Gator Erin Cain made an out on third. Gators Clare Bogle and Erin Cain were both catchers. Stars Amalya Penso and Rachel Barcklay worked hard in the outfield. Stars Sydnie Hersh, Georgia Seltzer, and Eva Finley all made solid first base hits. Thanks to the excellent coaching, every player is improving their skills each game. Both teams ended the morning with cheers of appreciation.
Andronico BlueJays vs. Hammond Events Green Gators
The Blue Jays batting skills were awesome. All of the girls hit the ball with great strength. In the outfield, Maria Barkhurst threw the ball directly to Lindsey Wiser, who got rid of it nice and fast. At second base, Raleigh Williams got the ball and threw it to catcher Tayah Blanck. Great team plays.
Jane Hammond Events Green Gators v. Autumn Press Stars
Star Bonnie Coulman, hit a solid line drive to center field! Gators Erin Cain, Clare Bogle, Kate Thomsen and Hanna Erdtmann, all hit singles. Gator Zelie Anner, picked up a grounder and threw it to first base for an out! Gator Talia Rogers, got two base hits; Gator Bailey Kobelin, threw a ground out to first base. Madeline Lawrence, got a base hit and brought in a Gator run. Gator Derby Gill, got a base hit to bring in Rogers, with bases still loaded. Gator pitcher Gabrielle Meacham, played great defense on the mound.
