Strategic Economics Panthers 10, San Marco Slammers 3
(Game played Saturday April 30th, 2005)
The Panthers took an early lead in the first inning with runs scored by Marissa Budlong and Caitlin Taffe. Slammer Sabina Kahn scored on a sacrifice hit by Abby Ridley-Kerr. The Panthers scored 4 more runs in the 3rd inning, highlighted by a double from Sonya Javits, which resulted in RBIs for Maggy DiCostanzo and Taffe. In the fourth inning, a single by Panther Julia Herbst brought in Stesha Marcon for an RBI. The Slammers countered with a hit by Latrina Senegal, bringing Sadie Oliver-Grey home for the score. In the fifth inning, another double by Panther DiCostanzo allowed Taffe to score, bringing the Panthers’ score to 10. Hannah Guletz scored the final run for the Slammers on an RBI by Ridley-Kerr. Despite cooling temperatures and the threat of rain, both teams enjoyed camaraderie and challenging competition throughout the game.
San Marco Slammmers 9 - Dart Vend Bumptious Bears 5
The Slammmers were backed by the combination of Abbey Ridley-Kerr, who had a homerun, triple and 3 RBIs, and the pitching of Shelby LaRosa, who faced ten batters in three innings. Slammmer catcher Katie Atkinson controlled the game behind the plate, along with a great defensive game by the whole Slammmers team. Dart Vend was led by Zoe Pollock's RBI single and Isabel Hubbard's aggressive steal home. Christina Sechak swatted a nice line-drive single.
Adobe Black Magic 2, Counterforce Lightning 1
Elisa Jones' four Gold Medals from last week's Special Olympics in Pleasanton hung in the Black Magic dugout for inspiration as the team eked out a narrow victory in a pitchers' duel that hung in the balance till the bottom of the sixth. The unflappable Lightning pitching duo of Adrian Gebhart and Adriana Stevens held Black Magic to a single run through five innings. Black Magician Lily Meryash caught a towering fly and catcher Hanna Morris nailed a throw to first to hold Lightning scoreless in the second. Morris followed cleanly fielded a bunt in the fourth, holding Lightning slugger Giselle Moreno at third and pegging the batter. Lightning's Kaila Wilkey's single drove Moreno home and tied the score. Lightning's flawless first base Johanna Heyer denied Black Magic scoring opportunities with both assisted and unassisted putouts. But Magician Corey Chin was unstoppable, scoring both Magic runs after smashing two shots deep to left. In the final inning, Magic third base coach and pitcher Elizabeth Tulsky - who struck out five batters - called a bunt and run, putting Chin in position to score from second on an errant pitch, for a dramatic end to one of the best fought matches of the season.
Alliance Graphics Platypuses 10, Arkin Tilt Terminators 3
Arkin Tilt's offense featured powerful singles by Elise Hartinger (who later slid into home for one run) and Nina Magnuson, and doubles by Ashley LaRosa, Samantha Burnell and Boothe Carlson. LaRosa and Carlson were also in fine form, each stealing 3rd base. On defense, 1st base Jane Huff fielded a shot and stepped on the base for an out. Pitcher Kenia Cobb threw her magic and had a strike-out in the 3rd inning. 1st base Monica Wiemels caught a deftly fielded ball from LaRosa for an out in the 4th. The Platypuses were unstoppable on offense. Singles by Jillian Jenkins, Emily Weidemann, Cristina McCue, Dinora Murota, Niki Sinclair and Anansa Ridley rocketed the bench. Alex Hickey whacked a double in the 4th. The Platypus defense was just as spectacular. Pitcher Annie Smith rolled up her sleeves in the 2nd, delivering three strikeouts. Quick thinking from Platypus McCue resulted in a 4th inning double play.
Middle Division
Prins Chiropractic Bulldogs 10, Red Oak Realty Rascals 4
The Bulldogs edged the Rascals 10-4 in a game that was closer than the score indicates. The Rascals led off with strong bats, including base hits by Gillian Sweeney and Katy Robinson, followed by Lena Nitsan's and Brooke Tannahill's RBI singles, for a 2-0 lead. Cory Labov started things off for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the 1st with a double in the gap. RBI singles by Olivia Duncan, Katie Lyons, and Kate Moore, plus some aggressive baserunning by Anna Moore, put 3 runs on the board for the Bulldogs. The 2nd inning featured Bulldogs defensive plays by 3rd baseman Julie Moorad and pitcher Lindsey Baker, and an amazing catch by Rascal shortstop Kiana Walker. The Bulldogs added 2 more runs in the 2nd, but the Rascals came back in the 3rd on Jordan Baker's 2-RBI single to make the score 5-4. The Bulldogs pushed a run across in the 3rd, and strung together seven consecutive singles for 4 runs in the 4th. There were many bright spots on the Rascals' defense, including several strikeouts by Rascal starter Baker, a gutsy relief effort by Nitsan, and a fine catch by Meg McCabe at 2nd base to end the game.
Berkeley Orthodontic Wicked Wires 2, Nolo Press Pickle Express 0
This was a squeaker to the end: he Wires and the Pickle Express played a hard, consistent and well matched game throughout. With Wire Alexandra Spencer-Wong on the mound for the first inning, Pickle Sarah Essex singled but was left on base by Wire Staci Apodaca's two unassisted outs at first. The Pickle Express bullpen had a combined 5 strikeouts by Shayna Weimer, Marielle Cohen, Samantha Abkin, and Zohe Slack. The second started with Wire Alexandra Spencer-Wong's putout with assist by Maya Ball-Burack at 1st. The great play continued with a a beautiful double by Pickle Cohen, followed by Pickle Jenna Guffy's hard pop up that was caught by Wire Kyle Daniels at shortstop. Pickle Jenna Duffy returned the favor by catching Wire Sarah Hoynes' popup in the 2nd. The third saw the Wires' one-two-three inning thanks to Wire hurler Siobhan Bauer plus great fielding and putouts by Sofia Cullen at 1st. The Pickle Express followed with Essex's amazing catch of a pop up by the Wire Daniels, and her rifle to first to catch Wire Laurel Wee off guard after she had singled to first. Facing the game time limit, the Wires came through with two hard singles by Spencer-Wong and Grace Geller. This set the table for slugger Bauer whose beautiful 2-RBI triple won the game.
Younger Division
Vivian Lopez Vipers 20, Zooming Zonta Zebras 7

The Zebras hosted the Vipers at Longfellow with an abundance of canine fans in attendance. Defensively, Zebra Margaret English made an out with bases loaded. At bat, Zebra Alondra Franco started things off with a base hit, but the Viper defense was strong, with Sofia DiBenedetto catching a fly ball to make the third out, stranding Zebras at all bases. In the 2nd, Viper Natalie Burns hit an RBI off the tee, followed by Ingram, who brought home another. Defensively, Zebra Julia Shebek made an unassisted out. At bat, Zebra Claire Harper fouled a ball into the crowd: the dogs went wild. Zebra shortstop Hannah Schoenberger raced a runner to the base for a nice play. Zebra pitcher Zeiger kept a hard line drive in the infield. Zebra catcher English made a play at the plate. At bat, Zebra Mira Weimer made her second single hit to the pitcher. Zebra Emma Hurlbert made a nice hit up the middle. The Vipers fielding wouldn’t give up, with Viper pitcher Friedman throwing to Burns at 3rd for the out. Viper Sailaja Varma threw to Sammie Chiang, who ran in from the outfield to make the out at second.
Friedman-Brueggemeyer Cougars 18, Dr Behnans Toothless Tigers 5
First inning Tigers Annelise Albert -Hall and Megan Foley batted solid base hits. Cougars got their first double play ever by pitcher Nora Killian to Reyna Fa-Kaji at first. Tiger Jessica Reed made a great defensive play at third, and an RBI. Solid hits by Tigers Madeleine Jones and Lila Jansen. Tiger defense from pitcher Molly Cohen forced an out at home with catcher Reed; Tiger Faith Valdez made two outs at third. Cougars Anna Barcellos, Gemma Hunt, Julia Foster, Nora Killian and Ariana Nevarez all scored. Tiger Jansen continued her hitting with a solid base hit at the top of the fourth. Cougar Nevarez gave a great effort in both batting and fielding. A good hit by Cougar Madeleine Pauker drove in the final run.
Five Little Monkeys Dementors 10, Vivian Lopez Vipers 12
The only thing more stellar than the weather was Dementor Claire Simpson's AWESOME unassisted triple play, catching a pop fly with the bases loaded, Simpson quickly stepped on the third base bag for two outs then alertly tagged a stray runner for the last out to end the 2nd inning: Viper pitcher Sammie Chiang and Sydney Sturgeon at 1st handled the ball for all 3 outs in the 1st inning. Natalie Burns kicked off a 4 run Viper rally with a solid. In the 3rd, Dementors almost reprised their triple play on a pop fly to 3rd: Abbie Ulrick made a great catch, but all runners were safe in the ensuing fire drill. Third base was the hot defensive corner in this game: Dementor Emily Wise made outs on two plays with quick fielding there, and Emily Cain flashed leather with a heads up play. Dementor Emma Steinheimer's delivered sharp hits, and she handled Viper sharp hits as well on consecutive plays in the field. Viper Sofia DiBenedetto got revenge on the ball (that hit her 3 times during the game) by leading off the 3rd and 4th innings with base hits. Dementors line drives included the crushing variety from Lena Mayer, and the hard hit kind from Serena Witherspoon. The Vipers two unassisted outs at home plate in the 4th, one each from Liana Rohlfing-McKenzie and Colleen Hamilton-Lecky.
On the Beam Leopards 20, Zooming Zonta Zebras, 7
Julia Shebek shone both offensively and defensively in the Zebra – Leopard rematch. In the top of the first, Zebras Mira Weimer at second base, and Margaret English at first base, made key outs. In the second, impressive team plays by Zebra pitcher Alejandra Zeiger and catcher English stopped two scoring runs. Hannah Schoenberger did an excellent job stopping base runners at first. In the fourth inning, Zebra batters Alondra Franco and Jasmine Masten had solid hits and Kyra Traynor made a key unassisted out at first base. The Leopards played great offense and defense. Nia Willis hit strong singles at-bat and made two critical outs at second base. Aya Newman also had sold hits and, as pitcher, she made the final out of the game with a critical throw to home base.
Micro Division
Autumn Press Stars vs. Andronico's Blue Jays

The Stars played a spirited game against the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays enjoyed success at the plate: Blue Jays Lucy Rosenthal, Raven Lemott and Jazmyn Nevarez all made solid hits in the first inning. Blue Jay Hana Minsky had two big hits, including a hard line drive. Blue Jay Lindsey Wiser also hit well, firing a hard grounder into the outfield. The Blue Jay defense continues to improve, with a couple of near-outs worth noting. Lila Simpson made an excellent catch while playing at the pitcher's spot, which she followed with a beautiful throw to first base. Maria Barkhurst stopped the ball at third base and threw it to first; Simpson was ready at the bag and they almost got the runner. Star Sadie Murray did an excellent job fielding, throwing the hits a number of times to first base. Stars Amalya Penso, Hannah Murray and Eva Finley all made solid hits. Star Bonnie Coulman was the slugger for the day, hitting the ball far past 3rd base. The girls all had a great time, showed exceptional spirit, and are making strides with their skills.
Andronico's Blue Jays v. Autumn Press Stars
Blue Jays Darcy Miller, Hana Minsky and Lia Renauer all got solid hits. Blue Jay pitcher Jazmyn Nevarez hit a hard line drive and exhibited some excellent fielding while on the mound. Blue Jay Lila Simpson had a big hit in the first inning and displayed characteristic hustle while base running and fielding, making several near-outs. For the Stars, Sydnie Hersh had a big day at the plate, hitting two fly balls and a grounder, all into left field. Stars Georgia Seltzer and Cara Chinn each had solid infield hits. Lee Labov was a Star defensive standout, stopping a hard hit grounder at short and making two unassisted put-outs at first base.
Jane Hammond Events Green Gators v. Andronico's Blue Jays
Blue Jays Rose Micallef, Tayah Blanck, and Jordan Hanson each had two infield hits in the game against the Green Gators. Blue Jay Maria Barkhurst had two unassisted putouts and two hits. Blue Jays Lindsey Wiser and Raleigh Williams each had a pair of singles.
Jane Hammond Events Green Gators v. Autumn Press Stars
Star Bonnie Coulman, hit a solid line drive to center field! Gators Erin Cain, Clare Bogle, Kate Thomsen and Hanna Erdtmann, all hit singles. Gator Zelie Anner, picked up a grounder and threw it to first base for an out! Gator Talia Rogers, got two base hits; Gator Bailey Kobelin, threw a ground out to first base. Madeline Lawrence, got a base hit and brought in a Gator run. Gator Derby Gill, got a base hit to bring in Rogers, with bases still loaded. Gator pitcher Gabrielle Meacham, played great defense on the mound.
