Piedmont Magic 0, Counterforce Lightning 14
Lightning pitchers Adriana Stevens and Kelsey Murakami limited the Magic to 3 singles in the 14-0 Lightning win. Lightning bolt Amanda Stevens singled twice, scored a run and walked to pace the home team's offense. Lightning's Eden Gorman and Zoe Scholz each drew a pair of walks to key successive rallies for the victors over the final 3 innings. Standout defense at third by the Magic's Alli Moy-Borgen helped slow the home team's attack. Moy-Borgen also contributed a single, joining Monica d'Angelo and Chrissy Lee, who contributed the Magic's other hits.
Older Division
Adobe Black Magic 10, Dart Vend Bumptious Bears 5
Magician Beatrice Weindel's smashed single in the 1st drove in Annelise Finney for the 1st Black Magic run. In the 2nd, Magician Valerie Dohrer fielded Lisa Gilliland's throw and snared a liner to hold Dart Vend scoreless. Magician Hanna Morris followed her dramatic slide at home with a terrific outing at catcher. Bear Camille Dyhr became very bumptious and threw a bullet to nail a runner trying to steal home. Bear pitcher Marina Hunt struck out all 6 of her outs, one with a crawling change-up. Bear Christina Sechak pulled a change-up of a steal by walking to second ahead of an excellent throw. Bear Camille Jackson ran as fast as lightning, sliding her way around the bases. Jackson's highlight was her unforgettable monster-spaceshot-whammer of a home run.
Sweet Potato Peelers 6, Tulip Hardwood Belt Sanders 4
After an early Peeler lead, 6 -1, the Belt Sanders ended up in a classic pitching duel. Led by Belt Sander pitchers Lilah Hubbard and Elana Jacobs-Pontecorvo, they held the Peelers limiting them to two hits. Likewise, Peeler pitchers Meagan Tokunaga and Fiona Riley, with catching by Ellie Arkin, limited the Belt Sanders to four hits for the game. The Peelers had sharp hitting by Erin Dickerhoff, Erica Shellem, Wendy Ho, Fiona Riley and Tokunaga. Clutch hitting by Peelers Riley, Tokunaga, and Sydney Knudsen extended their lead to 6-1. The Belt Sanders' rally wore away the Peelers' lead, closing the gap to 6-4. Leading the Belt Sander offense were Sita Wong, Zoe Fiddler and Emma Riley, who excited the crowd by stealing home. A double play by Peelers Dickerhoff and Sydney Morrone ended the Belt Sander rally. Suzanne Ho and Riley threw out runners at the plate to end another Belt Sander threat. Belt Sanders Katie Tick and Sonya Schoenberger's defense left a Peeler stranded at third. Belt Sander Helen Masson's fine work at first base kept the Peelers off the scoreboard in later innings.
Middle Division
Arkin Tilt Terminators 3, Impact Fund Maximum Impact 0
The Terminators enjoyed their first victory! The Terminators' defense was on as Nina Magnuson threw to Monica Wiemels at 1st for the first out of the game. Terminator Pitcher Ashley LaRosa zipped up the inning with 2 strikeouts. In the second, Terminator Ava Burnell fielded the ball at 1st for an out. On offense, Terminators Zoe Salnave-Crisostomo and Kenia Cobb each had powerful RBI singles, and Natalie Hahn's at bat brought in the final RBI for the game. Maximum Impact continue to hit well. Impactors Natalia Aldaco, Gabriela Steiner and Barbara McCray all made solid hits for bases. Daria Taplin-Tugwell knocked a shape hit down the 3rd base line in the 4th, outrunning the throw to 1st base. Alena Ennis' quick cuts showed her talent at the plate. On defense, Impact pitchers Sasha Kramer, Jennie Olseon and Abigail Green held their own. Impact Catcher Clara Obstfeld and fielder Reid Schnider were also impressive during the game.
Red Oak Realty Rascals 0, Berkeley Orthodontics Wicked Wires 5
After playing very well-with a victory Wednesday over the Terminators- the Rascals couldn't muster an offense to overcome a well-played game by the Wicked Wires. The Wires' 2nd inning rally brought in 4 runs and they never looked back. There were a few bright Rascal moments: Rascal Lena Nitsan struck out one batter and made a throw to Vita Romano for an out at first base in a scoreless 1st. Meg McCabe and Veronica Timpane hit hard singles in the bottom of the first. In the 2d, Romano made a nice play on a ground ball and got the last out with a throw to Jordan Baker at first base. The Rascals had hard hits by Katy Robinson, Camille Obata, and a fiesty Gillian Sweeney, who hit a hard single and wound up on third base after smart base running.
Nolo Pickle Express 6, Alliance Graphics Platypus 4
After a first inning run by the Platypus, the Pickle Express powered back in the second when Jenna Guffy crossed the plate on a base hit by Molly Greene. Ellis Garey's 2 RBI single, with the bases loaded, sent Molly Greene and Cassidy Linden home. Mariana Campos-Seligman scored the final run of the inning, on Sarah Essex's base hit. Continuing the strong hitting streak, Guffy doubled in the third and scored. Pickle Pitcher Marielle Cohen showed great defensive skill, picking off two batters, one at first and the other on an infield pop-up. Cohen also scored the final Pickle run in the fourth. The Platypus battled back with 3 runs scored in the final inning to wrap up a hard-fought game with fine play by all. Unfortunately, no details about Platypus plays were available.
Younger Division
Five Little Monkeys Dementors 17, Friedman Brueggemeyer Cougars 12
The Cougars had a strong start with sharp hits from both Reyna Fa-Kaji and Annie Ward. Dementors' seasoned defensive player Emma Steinheimer answered with two consecutive outs at third base. The final out for the inning was made by Dementor Emily Cain in a great play at home plate. Dementors had impressive batting, with a crushing line drive from Madeleine Barnum and several strong hits from Abbie Ulrick. Both teams displayed strong hitting and fielding, with Cougar Gemma Hunt making a perfect throw to first for an out. With lightening speed, Dementor baserunner Serena Witherspoon safely scored on a powerful hit from Claire Simpson. In the final inning, Cougar power-hitter Makayla Miller smashed a line drive for the Cougars last RBI.
On the Beam Leopards 14, Dr. Brehnan's Toothless Tigers 11
Both teams displayed fine defense in this fast paced game, with Tigers Molly Cohen and Shannon Riggio-Kerley nabbing all three outs in the first. The Leopards struck back with an amazing double play by Sophia Emmons-Bell. Leopard Claire Ramer stopped a ball in the 1st for a forced out and was on top of home plate as catcher in the 4th. Base runs were plentiful, with players like Leopard Hannah Herman-despite injury-showing great hitting and hustling. Tiger Jessica Reed hit a sneaky pop-up to advance the bases. Tigers Dayna Hubert and Ming Horn showed all-around skill with solid hitting and good defense. Leopard pitcher Imani Hiller-Bateau and catcher Talia Rossi helped lead the team to victory: Hiller-Bateau always threw to the right base and, with bases loaded, Rossi helped up the score with a powerful hit up the middle.
Vivan Lopez Vipers 20, Zonta Zooming Zebras 7
Viper Alyssa Kurtz got a solid base hit to right field, made unassisted plays at 1st and 2nd bases, and madea nice catch on a fly ball. Viper Sammie Chiang got two base hits down the 3rd base line. Viper Dejá Ingram got base hits to 1st and 2nd bases, and another one up the middle off the tee with the bases loaded (RBI). Ingram also made an unassisted play at 3rd base. Margot Friedman hit the ball out of the infield on a fly for a base hit. Friedman also made an unassisted play at 1st base, and as pitcher, threw to Viper Natalie Burns at 3rd base for an out. Burns got multiple RBI hits with the bases loaded. Sofia DiBenedetto caught a fly ball at 3rd base for the 3rd out with the bases loaded. Sailaja Varma had a base hit to 3rd base. Varma also threw from the outfield to Chiang covering 2nd base, for an out. Sydney Sturgeon hit it out of the infield on a fly for a base hit. As pitcher, Sturgeon threw home to catcher Burns for an out to save a run. Unfortunately, no details about the Zebras' plays were available.
Micro Division
Autumn Press Stars vs. Jane Hammond Events Green Gators
Madeline Lawrence and Zelie Anner hit solid singles for the Green Gators, while Gator second baseman Talia Rogers played excellent defense. The Star bats of Rachel Barcklay, Cara Chinn and Lee Labov boomed back. Infielder Georgia Seltzer scooped up a grounder, followed by third baseman Sydnie Hersh making an unassisted out while junior coaches Maddy Seltzer and Cory Labov looked on.
Autumn Press Stars vs. Andronico's Blue Jays
The Stars a spirited game against the Blue Jays played. Blue Jays Lucy Rosenthal, Raven Lemott and Jazmyn Nevarez all made solid hits in the first inning. Star Sadie Murray did an excellent job fielding, throwing the hits a number of times to first base. Stars Amalya Penso, Hannah Murray and Eva Finley all made solid hits. Star Bonnie Coulman was the slugger for the day, hitting the ball far past 3rd base. The girls all had a great time, showed exceptional spirit, and are making strides with their skills.
